The Breast Cancer Site Community is coming to a close.
First, please accept our sincere thanks for taking the time to join and post on The Breast Cancer Site Community, a part of the GreaterGood Network Community.

As of Tuesday, July 15, 2008, our BETA test of The Breast Cancer Site Community will come to a close.

What does this mean for you? As members of the original GreaterGood Network Community, you will still be able to access your member profiles and see all of your posts, blogs, photos, videos, and guest book entries under "My Content" in the left navigation. The main difference is that the breast cancer forums are no longer available; posts to forums may not be edited or added to, and the color and branding of the overall community will be purple for The Animal Rescue Site Community, which is continuing.

Your stories have touched many, and created a safe space for those living with cancer, survivors and supporters to share information, hope and support. We are honored that you allowed us to share with you in your joys and losses, fears and triumphs.

We are working to make sure you will again have a community available to you where you will continue to feel safe and heard. Your input is important to us - if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email the community moderator, greatergood.moderator@gmail.com.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

The GreaterGood

Hello. I am the Health editor for a network of more than 70 news web sites affiliated with television states. We are revamping our Breast Cancer section, and want to help and inspire those who are fighting or have fought the disease.

Would you like to share your story with us? I, of course, would not take anything from this site without permission.

But if you're interested, please share your story (in 500-750 words, if you can) in this thread or e-mail me.

Thanks for considering it! Best of luck to all.

Adam, I have three stories posted on this site all with titles pertaining to the NY Marathon. If you think they would help – please feel free to use them. My whole story is one of hope and survival. I have crossed the proverbial finish line just last Friday when I underwent reconstruction surgery closing out my diagnosis and surgery (Bi-lateral) last fall. The surgery could have been sooner but I promised myself that I would complete three half marathons in the spring when I was diagnosis and a small thing like ta-tas could not get in the way. Completing these events did much more for my emotional well being then a pair of boobs ever could have. And so I finished my three half marathons, Virginia Beach in March, More® Half in Central Park in April and Long Branch Half in New Jersey in May. This Sunday I will do the Baltimore Survivor 7 (7 mile run in Baltimore) created for people to celebrate surviving anything! This was my son’s request; he was running it for me and asked that I try and join him. I have kept a diary of my journey and would be happy to share.

My story
In 1995 I had a benign lump removed form my right breast 18 months later noticing the scar was fading at last I noticed the nipple dipping on my left breast then a lump appeared.
I went to the breast clinic at out hospital, all the test came back clear and I was prescribed evening primrose oil capsules, 3-6 months later after many fine needle aspirations all clear the surgeon decided to remove the lump, the middle 2cm were cancerous, that is went I lost it and went to pieces "I wasnt having surgery I was going on holiday at the weekend good by",I was prescribed tamoxifen which I took for 5 years, I was persuaded by family to go ahead immediately and it was my decision to have a mastectomy July 1997 I had a few post operative hiccups then in the December had 15 radiotherapy treatments, I had check ups for the next 10 years as I tend to have calcification in the remaining breast, some of the procedures were clinical trials I was happy to help with, I have now been discharged.
I did take HRT for 6 years previous to being diagnosed but do not regret it and time over again would still take it.
I did not like the idea of reconstructive surgery I was/am scared if the cancer came back it would be hidden, I am very happy with the breast forms fitted by the nurses they do an excellent job.
Will talk to anyone if it helps
Barbara
